I gathered a range of photos of different forms of architecture in London that I liked and selected one to work with. Out of my range of photos one particularly caught my eye which was the Gherkin building and therefore I decided to develop the shapes and patterns of the building in my own unique way by designing and producing a corset.
Two artists that inspired me and I thought worked in ways that could reflect the patterns of a building were Gwen Hedley and Alice Kettle. These are sample of Gwen Hedleys work I developed from photos of her work and used her techniques in my final design.
To make my corset material, I bonda-webbed blue tissue paper to organza material so that the tissue paper was more pliable and stronger. This was strong enough to sew into and wear as a garment. I also decided that I wanted the bones of the corset to be on the outside to represent the surrounding of the windows on the buildings.
As I started to design and develop my ideas from my artists, I did some corset research to help decide a style. I made an under layer first because I found that the tissue paper and organza material was see through and could be made stronger, for when the corset is worn.
