Materials and techniques- 3D Box.
In this unit I looked at several artist which lead me to design and make a 3D wooden box with several layers that were influenced from different artists which used free stitching and laser cutting.
John Dilnot- Free Stitched bird to interpret his work. |
Helen Musselwhite- My interpretation of her work using the laser cutter. |
Tord Boontje- I tried free machine stitch on polyester and lace to interpret his burnt out screen print. |
I used Helen Musselwhites techniques of laser cutting and butterflies and flowers to design my own laser cutting and then work into them with free machine stitch. I also used the technique of couching to make the body of the butterflies.

My final piece consisted of 3 layers in a wooden box that I constructed. The back layer was made of lace with Tord Boontje style flowers on in free stitch. The next layers inspiration also came from Tord and Helen Musselwhite, as I laser cut felt flowers and placed beads on. The front layer is made of twigs that are sprayed gold and laser cut butterflies on different materials and leaves, that are worked into with hand stitch and free machine stitch. |
